This policy is established so that all persons dealing with SEIROS (The Study of the Economic Impact of Religion on Society Limited) know what SEIROS’ privacy policies are. Those policies have been designed to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) as amended by the Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012 and other relevant legislation including the Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Data Breaches) Act 2017 (Cth).
Personal information is information that can identify a person and includes financial information. The only information that SEIROS collects from individuals is information that is necessary for SEIROS to issue receipts to those individuals to identify those individuals so that they may prove that they made the relevant donation to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). SEIROS retains that information so that it can respond to audit questions that may be directed to it by either the ATO or the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC) in accordance with the statutory power of those two government institutions.
SEIROS safeguards the privacy and the security of personal information that it collects by taking steps to protect the information that it holds from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure. When personal information that SEIROS collects is no longer required, we destroy or delete it in a secure manner.
Where individuals have indicated that they would like further information from SEIROS in future, personal information obtained from individuals for ATO and ACNC purposes may also be used to answer those requests for information.
